Valley of Dreams A Smashing Success in Raising Funds for Autism!

2008 Valley of DreamsUnderscoring THE PLAYERS Championship giving back mission THE PLAYERS hosted the second annual Valley of Dreams Charity Golf and Gala event, at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. The two day event was again, a smashing success in raising nearly $400,000 for the HEAL Foundation. The Valley of Dreams began on Thursday evening June 26th with a sold out Gala hosted by actress and best selling author Jenny McCarthy. Other celebrities at the event included film maker Joey Travolta, Hall of Fame Longboard Surfer Robert "Wingnut" Weaver, NFL Jaguar Tony Pashos and First Coast News TV Anchor Patty Crosby. The gala included dinner, dancing, silent and live auctions. Those in attendance were thoroughly entertained during the live auction called by "voice of the Jaguars" Brian Sexton, which brought in an unprecedented $120,000.

HEAL! Day at the Beach

Special Day at the Beach/Sunrise Surf Camp for children with autism proved to be a fun event for all who attended.  This year over 50 children with autism and over 100 volunteers flocked to the beach for a special day for those with autism.

Dan Brooks, who headed the event sponsored by Sunrise Surf Shop, the City of Jacksonville Beach, the Rotary Club and HEAL said "We really compiled  a group of seasoned water persons.

It's a Wrap For Film Camp
 
Joey Travolta-HEAL Film camp was an educational and amazing experience for all who attended.  Lives were transformed on the campus of The University of North Florida during the HEAL Film camp under the direction of Joey Travolta and his Hollywood film crew.  Local film production company, ArtLife Productions, headed by Karen Sadler provided creative production services during the two week camp.

Wrightslaw-Special Education Law and Advocacy Training
 

August 9th -Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village 8:30 to 4:00 -Jacksonville, Florida

The Florida Developmental Disabilities Council is proud to sponsor the one-day Wrightslaw Special Education Law and Advocacy Training presented by Peter Wright, Esq.

The workshop is designed to inform parents, families or guardians of their children's educational rights under the law and how to advocate on behalf of their children.

"Healing Families" Continues To Touch Lives

Last spring, HEAL sponsored a "pilot" support group for mothers under the direction of Janeen Herskovitz. Our mission was to design a program which would educate, empower, validate and give hope to mothers as they navigate the difficult and challenging maze of autism. It was our intent to target mothers in crisis, who were within three years of receiving their child's diagnosis of autism. The program proved to be a success, and as a result of these women coming together weekly, many positive transformations have taken place in their lives. These mothers have continued to meet and lend support to each other long after the HEALing sessions ended.
