The Never Quit Beach Festival raises awareness for heart disease and stroke in people of all ages. They are offering one-on-one surf lessons for children with Autism.  Sign up in advance online until June 1st on www.1stplacesports.com.  Visit www.neverquitnever.com for more information, or call (904) 731-1900 to reach the race hotline.

HEAL Website-New Resource Section for Young Adults

As the population with Autism ages in to the teen years, HEAL has a new young adult section under the local resources on our website. This addition provides information on programs that provide employment opportunities for young adults with disabilities, job placement or social skills assistance. Among the organizations that provide these programs are Hope Haven, CARD, and The Able Trust. If you have a program, or know of a program for teens or adults on the Autism Spectrum, email us at info@healautismnow.org

HEAL is Looking for an Outreach Coordinator

Many of you know Janeen Herskovitz as the HEAL point person for families affected by Autism. Janeen is leaving HEAL and going to pursue her dream of family counseling full time.  She will continue to lead the support groups, and HEAL is looking for someone to resume her duties as Outreach Coordinator.

The Outreach Coordinator position is a paid part-time position.  The job duties will include planning and hosting a monthly HEAL gathering, and creating and executing other events throughout the year.  In addition, this person would be the point of contact for families that contact HEAL looking for advice, suggestions or a shoulder to cry on.  If you are interested in speaking with us about this position, please send your resume via email to info@healautismnow.org.

Thanks to All Who Raised Funds for HEAL During Autism Awareness Month!

HEAL is grateful for the support we received during April, Autism Awareness Month.  So many organizations were creative in their fundraising efforts!  Beaches Episcopal School held a “Dollar for Denim Day” and allowed students and faculty to wear jeans!  Paula Collins of Abanitio Salon put out a donation jar for clients to help.  A Fu Kein Good Tattoo had clients donate to HEAL in return for getting a puzzle piece tattoo!  And Dr. Beth Kailes, whose Pediatric Dentistry is donating to HEAL for every new fan on their facebook page during the month of April.

Also, big thanks to all who attended the First Coast HEAL Zoo Walk for Autism. 1,200 people participated in the walk and $50,000 was raised for Autism programs on the First Coast.  HEAL is grateful for all the community support we received in April, and every month.  If your organization would like to raise funds for HEAL, please contact us at events@healautismnow.org.
