Bill Hughes became a Professional Golfer’s Association of America Member in 1984 after an accomplished career playing junior, collegiate, amateur and professional golf. In 1995, Mr. Hughes joined an elite group of PGA Professionals when being named the 169th PGA Master Professional in the history of the association.
Hired by the PGA TOUR in 1996, Hughes served in a number of capacities for the PGA TOUR including Chief Operating Officer/General Manager at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, TPC River’s Bend, Cincinnati, Ohio, TPC Craig Ranch in Dallas, Texas and in 2006 arrived at TPC Sawgrass, the PGA TOUR’s Flagship property located in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida to oversee construction of the 110,000 sq. ft. clubhouse, extensive renovations of both the PLAYERS Stadium and Dye’s Valley golf courses while repositioning TPC Sawgrass and the PGA TOUR Brand worldwide.
Mr. Hughes has been recognized by the PGA of America with several awards including: “Junior Golf Leadership”, “The Bill Strausbaugh” and “Golf Professional of the Year” on more than one occasion. Mr. Hughes was also the inaugural recipient of the American Junior Golf Association “General Manager of the Year” Award in 2013.
In 2015 the PGA of America and its 29,000 members and associates recognized Mr. Hughes with the National “Bill Strausbaugh Award” for his passion in mentoring aspiring PGA Professionals and his work with many non-profit organizations he serves in North Florida. Mr. Hughes was conferred with an honorary Doctorate Degree from Flagler College in 2015 for his tireless support of the college, the community and his leadership in St. Johns County as Board Chair of the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council.
After a 23-year distinguished career with the PGA TOUR, the last 12 years as Chief Operating Officer and General Manager at TPC Sawgrass, Mr. Hughes recently retired from the PGA TOUR and is currently resides in Vail, Colorado as Chief Operating Officer/General Manager of the Country Club of the Rockies. Mr. Hughes is a member of the PGA of America National Employment Committee and the AJGA ACE Grant Foundation Board while continuing to serve on the boards of Flagler College (Hospitality and Tourism Board), Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (North Florida) and True Blue (Benefiting Navy Families).
Bill is partnered for life with his beautiful wife Molly for over thirty-two years. They enjoy two children, Kelsey (28) and Christopher (27) whom both played four-years of collegiate golf and currently enjoy careers in the golf industry with Parsons Extreme Golf (PXG) and as a Level II PGA Assistant Professional respectively.
